FIND LOCATION BY IP ADDRESS

This is a simple trick and by using it you will be able to track someone’s location using his computer network’s IP (Internet Protocol Address) address. You can use this technique in anonymous chat websites like Omegle and other to find out the strangers location.  But first of all, you will have to be aware of some basic terms related to the worldwide web and computer networks.

What is an IP Address?

IP address is a numerical label assigned to each computer participating in a network. In simple terms it’s similar to your house number but in the case of computers it is assigned to identify it on the network. The IP address of your computer is accessed by almost every website so that it can communicate and identify your computer on the network.  Every computer has a unique IP which makes it possible to be identified and browse the internet. You can find out the IP address of your computer by  using sites like www.whatismyip.com or by simply searching for the term “What is my IP ? “ on Google Search.

URL Redirection:  is a technique which is used to make a webpage available on more than one address i.e.  Suppose you visit a website called www.example.com and you land on a different page.

If you know how to use URL shortening websites like Bitly and TinyUrl then you will realize that they use this same technique to shorten URL’s.

Now let’s learn the trick to find out someone’s IP address and his location by using that IP address.

For this trick we will use a Website called www.myiptest.com .

Go to the website and look for the link named “Get Someones IP” on the left side of the home page.

On clicking that link you will navigate to a new page which will look something like this,

As you can see that it has three textboxes labled “Link for person”, “Redirect URL” and “Link for you”.

1. Link for Person: This is the link which you will use to find out the IP address of the person. This link is automatically generated and you don’t have to modify or edit this link. Whenever the person visits this link the IP address of that person will be recorded and saved for you to see later. If a person clicks a link he expects that it will take him to some page or website. But this link doesn’t have a page associated to it and therefore, the redirect URL is used so that he does not feel suspicious on visiting this link
2. Redirect URL: This URL is the address of the website where the person visiting the previous link will be redirected. It can be anything like an image link or the address of a website or any random link. Just search for any image on Google and paste it in the middle textbox and press enter.
3. Link for you: This is the link which will help you to find out the IP addresses of the people who visit the link given in the first text box. On visiting this link you will get the ip addresses of all the computers who visited the link created previously.

Now copy the content of the first textbox and paste it a notepad. Now open any URL shortening website like Bitly and shorten the URL which you just pasted in the notepad.

*Note (if you don’t know how to shorten a link):  To shorten an URL visit www.bitly.com.You will see a text box on the homepage itself. Just paste the long url in the textbox and press enter. As soon as you hit Enter button the short URL is generated.

Now all you have to do is copy the short URL and paste it somewhere.

Now we will use the bitly link and the third link for this trick. We don’t need the redirect url.

So what exactly is happening in the background, Lets learn this with the help of an example.

Suppose you are chatting with a random Stranger on Omegle or any anonymous chat site. You give him the link which you have just created and convince him to visit that link (that’s totally up to you to convince him to click your link).

The stranger clicks the link and it takes him to myiptest website but it will redirect him to the youtube video i.e. the redirect link. Meanwhile when the stranger is watching the video you can visit the link given in the third text box. It will take you to the myiptest website and a new page will open which looks like this.

You will see the IP addresses of the stranger who just clicked the link with his date and time stamp. Just click on the IP address and and the IP details page will open.

That’s it now you know the location of the IP address. Its not that precise but will give you the approximate location of the stranger. Have fun!!
