Locking a pendrive

You know that “security” and “privacy” are the two most essential things that should not be compromised. In the daily life, to prevent ourself from security threat we use passwords and a lot more things, like in our bank accounts, phone, computers, online accounts etc.
We are well aware that to transfer data, pendrives or SD cards are choosen by default. Now if we want to keep ourself safe from all sort of threats, why not to consider putting locks to our pendrives or SD cards.




Some mobile phones provide the SD card locking system but to keep on safe side, we need to keep an eye on the protection part.
There are lots of third party software available over net to protect your SD and pendrives. In this tutorial, I am going to show you one of the trick(the bitLocker) that Windows itself provide to put a lock on your flash drives.

Note: BitLocker is available on Windows 7 Enterprise & Ultimate, Windows 8 Pro & Enterprise and Windows 8.1 Pro & Enterprise.

How to lock pen drive using Bitlocker?

This is however very easy and not yet much time consuming to set up everything. Just plug-in your pend drive and right click on that to select Turn on BitLocker.

Within a few couple of seconds, you will get a window that will ask for password. Just enter a password and go forward.

If you have chosen a really long and unmemorable password, you can save one recovery file (.txt file that will contain your password) on your hard disk.

Do remember the following things before encrypting your pen drive;
  1. You must have to remember your password to unlock your pen drive
  2. Do not unplug your pen drive until encryption is complete.

The entire process might take few minutes and it depends on the pen drive memory size.
